Our Classes Expectations are developed by the class, with guidance from me. During the first weeks of school the children will generate ideas about what they need to be a good learner. We make the ideas simple and stated in positive terms. (Walk. or Be Safe. Not don't run.)
Our expectations for the year 2014-2015 are as follows: These are just samples as of now.
Be safe.
Be kind.
Work hard.
Our school motto is “H.E.A.R.T.”
H is Honor; being truthful and doing the right thing, even when no one is looking.
E is Empathy; being caring and understanding how other feel even when no one is looking.
A is Accountability; being responsible for your actions even when no one is looking.
R is Respect; treating other how they want to be treated even when no one is looking.
T is Teamwork; working well as a group even when no one is looking.
“Clip Up!” Chart
The clothespins are clipped to the left and right edges of the Ready to Learn level of the chart. During the course of the day, the clothespins move up and down the chart based upon the behavioral choices each student makes. Good behavior causes the clothespin to move up one level. Conversely, inappropriate behavior will cause the clothespin to
move down one level. I love this idea of being able to move back "up" to the "Ready to Learn" green section. "Clip Ups" are done publicly, and you should see the redirations of all kids when one is clipped up. "Clip Downs" are done privately.
