The goal of my reading curriculum is for children come away with a love of reading. They need to be able to identify letters, make their sounds, break words apart, put words back together, know the rules and exceptions, and read fluently. But if they don’t LOVE to read it is difficult to go on from there to being a lifelong reader.
LOVING reading takes HARD work. It takes TIME! We have at least 120 minutes a day devoted to reading in class, but it takes more than that. If a child is behind it takes MUCH more than that. At school we can add more time, but in order to “CATCH UP” it will take more than that! This is where the family comes in to helping to make reading MORE fun!
